Pneumococcal vaccination is one of the most effective means of preventing pneumococcal diseases. The new Pneumococcal 20-valent Conjugate Vaccine prevents invasive diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes, which covers the serotypes of Pneumococcal 13-valent Conjugate Vaccine (i.e. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F and 23F) and the newly added 7 Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes with high lethality and antibiotic resistance including 8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F, 33F. The new vaccine has been approved by The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for adults aged 18 and above.
